At 3,029 metres, right on the border of the Hohe Tauern National Park, is Salzburg’s highest-situated excursion destination: Gipfelwelt 3000 on the Kitzsteinhorn glacier. Among other things, the “Top of Salzburg” panorama platform awaits you there. It offers you a unique view of the glaciated peaks of the Hohe Tauern. With a bit of luck, you may even see the Grossglockner, Austria’s highest mountain, in the distance. The journey also takes you to the National Park Gallery, into the interior of the glacier, where you can learn exciting facts about the mountain, nature and technology.

You can comfortably reach the summit at over 3,000 metres above sea level by cable car. You can also hike on numerous clearly marked trails on the Kitzsteinhorn. Once you’ve reached your destination, it’s time to relax: enjoy the glacier sun on the snow beach! Then nothing stands in the way of sliding fun in the Ice Arena: here you can toboggan on snow in the middle of summer. If you don’t want to miss out on skiing in summer, the Kitzsteinhorn glacier is also the right place for you. The ski resort is also open until early summer.

The guided Kitzsteinhorn Explorer Tour takes you on an exciting journey through four climate zones. Accompanied by a ranger, you start in the valley and then take several cable cars uphill to the eternal ice. You will learn how glacier ice is formed, where the majestic golden eagles live and how flora and fauna adapt to the high mountains. The Kitzsteinhorn Explorer Tour is suitable for the whole family.
